Steve Beck
CO2, Transport Officer
“The Freedom Foundation is not looking out for union members. They are worried about themselves and getting richer. They are not worried about the middle class. If they called one of my co-workers, my advice to them is to hang up. That’s why we’re trying to get our privacy bill passed so that they, or any inmates cannot look up our [correctional officers’] personal information. The most important aspect of having a union is representation. It’s huge. If you don’t have it, then management can do whatever they want. They can fire you with no reason. They can walk in and just say ‘you’re done’. It’s not fair, there would be no hearing – nothing. The union’s power comes from everybody. If we don’t have everyone in sync on it, then we don’t have anything.”
